How to use Neupred Syrup ?
- Neupred syrup can be taken with food to reduce the chance of stomach upset
- Measure each dose carefully using the measuring spoon or cup provided
- Neupred syrup is usually taken once daily in the morning, or as directed by your doctor
- A lower dose is used for maintenance once the condition is under control
- Never stop Neupred syrup suddenly without speaking to your doctor first
Contraindications
- Known allergy to prednisolone or any other ingredient in the syrup
- Active systemic fungal infection anywhere in the body
- Patients with untreated active tuberculosis
- Patients currently scheduled to receive a live vaccine
Drug Interactions
- NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen): Combined use increases the risk of stomach bleeding and ulcers.
- Rifampicin: This antibiotic speeds up the breakdown of prednisolone, making it less effective.
- Ketoconazole: This antifungal raises prednisolone levels in the blood, increasing side effect risk.
- Diuretics (furosemide, thiazides): Combined use can cause excessive loss of potassium from the body.
- Anticoagulants (warfarin): Prednisolone may alter how blood thinners work, requiring dose monitoring.
- Antidiabetic medicines (metformin, insulin): Prednisolone can raise blood sugar, requiring dose adjustments.
- Live vaccines: Neupred syrup reduces immunity, making live vaccines unsafe during treatment.
- Cyclosporine: Combined use may increase the levels of both medicines and raise toxicity risk.
Risks and warnings
- Diabetes: Neupred syrup can raise blood sugar levels and may worsen diabetes, requiring close monitoring.
- Hypertension: Prednisolone causes fluid retention and can increase blood pressure.
- Peptic ulcer: This medicine increases the risk of stomach bleeding, especially with NSAIDs.
- Tuberculosis (TB): Prednisolone suppresses immunity and can reactivate a dormant TB infection.
- Osteoporosis: Long-term use reduces calcium absorption and weakens bones over time.
- Glaucoma or cataracts: Prolonged corticosteroid use can raise eye pressure and affect vision.
- Heart disease: Fluid retention caused by this medicine can worsen heart failure symptoms.
- Kidney or liver problems: These conditions affect how prednisolone is processed, requiring dose adjustment.
- Pregnancy: Prednisolone should only be used in pregnancy if clearly needed and on a doctor's advice.
- Breastfeeding: Small amounts of prednisolone pass into breast milk, so use with medical guidance only.
Neupred Syrup Side Effects

- Severe stomach pain that could indicate gastrointestinal bleeding
- Signs of adrenal insufficiency after stopping the medicine, such as prolonged fatigue or dizziness
Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature, below 25°C
- Keep the bottle away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture
- Do not refrigerate unless stated on the label
- Keep out of reach of children and pets at all times
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the bottle
- Dispose of unused syrup safely, do not pour it down the drain or sink
