Lincomycin belongs to the lincosamide group and stops bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow. It works mainly against gram positive bacteria such as staphylococci and streptococci. • Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

Drug Interactions

• Clindamycin and erythromycin: Lincomycin should not be taken with these, as they compete for the same site and may weaken each other.
• Kaolin and antidiarrheal products: Kaolin lowers absorption, and antidiarrheals can hide or worsen colitis.
• Muscle relaxants and anesthetic agents: Lincomycin may increase their muscle weakening effect.
• Oral contraceptives: Antibiotics may rarely reduce their effect, so extra protection can be advised.
