How to use Otek Tablet 20mg?
- Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
- Take it with food or milk to lower stomach upset.
- Use the lowest dose that controls your pain.
- Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours unless your doctor says so.
- Tell your doctor if pain continues after two weeks of use.
Drug Interactions
- Blood thinners: Warfarin and similar drugs combined with piroxicam raise the risk of serious bleeding.
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin: Taking them together multiplies the risk of stomach ulcers.
- ACE inhibitors or ARBs: Piroxicam can reduce their blood pressure lowering effect and stress the kidneys.
- Lithium: Piroxicam can raise lithium levels in the blood to an unsafe point.
- Methotrexate: Combined use can increase methotrexate toxicity, especially at higher doses.
Risks and warnings
- Stomach and gut risk: Can cause ulcers, bleeding or perforation, sometimes without warning signs.
- Skin reactions: Rare but serious reactions like Stevens Johnson syndrome have been linked to piroxicam.
- Heart and blood pressure: Long term use may raise blood pressure and heart risk, especially in older adults.
- Kidney function: Can reduce kidney blood flow, so caution is needed in patients with kidney disease.
- Pregnancy: Avoid in the third trimester, since NSAIDs can affect the baby's heart and fluid levels.
