What Experts Say
Dosulepin is a tricyclic antidepressant that inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin at presynaptic neuronal membranes. By blocking monoamine reuptake transporters, it increases synaptic concentrations of these neurotransmitters, enhancing mood regulation and emotional stability. The mechanism provides rapid onset of action compared to newer classes.
Psychiatrists recommend Prothiaden for depression and anxiety, particularly in patients requiring additional analgesia for chronic pain. The sedative properties improve sleep quality, making bedtime dosing beneficial. Clinical response typically manifests within 2 to 4 weeks of consistent therapy.
Take Prothiaden preferably at bedtime due to sedative effects. Do not discontinue suddenly as abrupt withdrawal may cause rebound symptoms. Gradual dose reduction is necessary under medical supervision.
