What Experts Say
Gastroenterologists in Pakistan frequently prescribe Lansoprazole capsules for patients with persistent heartburn, acid regurgitation, and confirmed peptic ulcer disease. Its longer acid suppression window compared to older antacids makes it a preferred first line option for moderate to severe GERD symptoms that do not settle with lifestyle changes alone.
Doctors usually advise taking Qpro Capsule 15mg on an empty stomach, about thirty minutes before the first meal of the day, since food intake can reduce how well Lansoprazole is absorbed. For ulcer healing or H pylori eradication, physicians often combine it with antibiotics for one to two weeks, then continue the PPI alone for several more weeks to allow the stomach lining to recover fully.
Pakistan carries a high burden of acid peptic disease linked to spicy diets, irregular eating patterns, smoking, and widespread H pylori infection. Physicians recommend not self-medicating with a PPI for more than two weeks without medical review, since prolonged unsupervised use can mask serious conditions or cause nutrient deficiencies over time.

Drug Interactions
- Clopidogrel: Lansoprazole may reduce the blood thinning effect of clopidogrel, increasing clotting risk
- Warfarin: May increase the blood thinning effect and raise bleeding risk, requiring closer monitoring
- Digoxin: Absorption of digoxin can be altered, needing dose monitoring
- Ketoconazole and Itraconazole: Absorption of these antifungals is reduced since they need stomach acid to dissolve properly
- Methotrexate: High dose methotrexate levels may rise when combined with Lansoprazole, increasing toxicity risk
- Iron supplements: Absorption of oral iron may be reduced due to lower stomach acid
Risks and warnings
- Long term use: Extended use beyond eight to twelve weeks without medical supervision may lower magnesium and vitamin B12 levels
- Bone fracture risk: Prolonged high dose use has been linked to a slightly higher risk of hip, wrist, and spine fractures
- Kidney concerns: Rare cases of acute kidney inflammation have been reported with long term PPI use
- Masking serious disease: Symptom relief may hide signs of a more serious stomach condition, so unexplained weight loss or persistent vomiting should be checked by a doctor
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if a doctor confirms it is necessary, since data on Lansoprazole safety in these groups is limited
