How to use Rabio Vaccine injection?

• Given only by a doctor or trained healthcare worker, never self administered
• Pre-exposure schedule follows day 0, day 7, and day 21 or 28
• Post-exposure schedule follows day 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28 after the bite
• Category III wounds also need rabies immunoglobulin along with the vaccine
• Complete the full dosing schedule even if the animal appears healthy

Drug Interactions

• Chloroquine: Antimalarial drugs like chloroquine can blunt the antibody response to the rabies vaccine.
• Corticosteroids: Long term steroid use may weaken the immune response and lower vaccine effectiveness.
• Immunosuppressant Drugs: Medicines used after organ transplant or for autoimmune disease can reduce protection, so extra antibody testing may be advised.

Risks and warnings

• Injection Site Reaction: Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site is common and usually mild.
• Anaphylaxis: A severe allergic reaction is rare but can occur, so vaccination should happen at a facility with emergency care available.
• Immunocompromised Patients: Inform the doctor about HIV, cancer treatment, or steroid use, since the immune response may be weaker.
