Rifagut Tablet 550mg is a rifamycin class antibiotic that acts mainly in the gut by reducing certain intestinal bacteria.

How to use Rifagut Tablet 550mg?
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water
- Take it with or without food
- Do not chew, crush or break the tablet
- Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve
Contraindications
- Should not be used by patients allergic to rifaximin or other rifamycins such as rifampicin
- Should not be used in diarrhoea with fever or blood in the stool
- Should not be used in intestinal blockage, unless a doctor advises otherwise
- Should not be given to young children without medical supervision
Risks and warnings
- Report severe diarrhoea: as rifaximin may cause Clostridioides difficile associated diarrhoea
- Use with caution: if you are pregnant, and use it only if your doctor feels benefits outweigh risks
- Use with caution: if you are breastfeeding, as it is not known whether it passes into breast milk
- Use with caution: if you have severe liver impairment, as more of the drug may be absorbed
- Do not exceed the prescribed dose: as an overdose may cause stomach upset, so contact a doctor promptly
- Tell your doctor about other medicines: as cyclosporine levels may rise and warfarin may need more frequent INR checks
- Avoid alcohol: as it may worsen liver problems

- Swelling of the feet or ankles
- Rare allergic signs such as rash, itching or swelling of the face and throat
- Rare severe or watery diarrhoea after treatment, persistent vomiting or fever

- Store at room temperature, below 25°C
- Protect from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep in the original strip until use
- Keep out of reach of children
