How to use Simgesic Tablet?
- Simgesic tablet can be taken with or without food
- The tablet should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water
- Doses must be spaced at least four hours apart
- No other paracetamol containing medicine should be taken alongside it
- This medicine should not be continued beyond five days without review
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in children below twelve years of age
- Those with a history of severe breathing problems or uncontrolled asthma
- Should not be taken by anyone using antidepressants of the MAO inhibitor group
- People diagnosed with severe liver disease or a blocked bowel
Drug Interactions
- Antidepressants and migraine medicines: a dangerous serotonin reaction may develop
- Sleeping pills and alcohol: breathing may slow dangerously
- Other paracetamol products: the combined dose can seriously damage the liver
- Carbamazepine: pain relief weakens and seizure risk rises
- Always tell your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking
Risks and warnings
- Prescription only: this is a controlled medicine and needs a doctor's prescription
- Seizure risk: tramadol lowers the seizure threshold in prone patients
- Dependence: long use causes dependence, so the dose must be reduced slowly
- Paracetamol limit: total daily paracetamol from all sources must stay within safe limits
- Breastfeeding: this medicine is not suitable while breastfeeding
- Pregnancy: use late in pregnancy can cause withdrawal in the newborn
- Elderly patients: lower doses and longer gaps are usually needed
- Driving and machinery: drowsiness makes driving unsafe
