Fluocinolone calms the inflammation, redness and itching in an affected patch of skin, while neomycin clears the bacteria contributing to the infection.

It is applied in a thin layer, usually two to three times daily, to the specific affected area rather than widespread use.

Because it contains a steroid and an antibiotic that can cause sensitisation with prolonged use, it should be used strictly for the short course a doctor advises, and avoided on broken skin, the face, or viral and fungal skin infections.

How to use Synalar N Ointment 30g?

• Apply a thin layer to the affected area, 2 to 3 times daily.
• Use for the short course advised, generally under 2 weeks.
• Avoid the eyes and broken or open skin.
• Wash hands after application unless the hands are being treated.

Drug Interactions

Synalar N Ointment has limited systemic interactions when used on small areas short term.

• Other topical steroids: Combining increases the risk of skin thinning.
• Large area or broken skin use: Raises the chance of the medicine being absorbed into the body.

Risks and warnings

• Prolonged use: Can thin the skin and cause stretch marks with extended use.
• Broken skin: Neomycin absorbed through broken skin can affect hearing or kidney function.
• Viral or fungal infections: Not suitable for cold sores, chickenpox or fungal rashes.
• Skin sensitisation: Neomycin can occasionally cause contact allergy.
