What Experts Say
Fexofenadine hydrochloride is a second generation antihistamine that selectively blocks peripheral H1 histamine receptors. It does not cross the blood brain barrier easily, so it causes far less sedation than older antihistamines like chlorpheniramine. This action controls sneezing, nasal itching and watery eyes without affecting alertness.
Clinical studies show fexofenadine 180mg once daily gives symptom control comparable to loratadine and cetirizine, with a favorable balance between efficacy and low sedation. This profile makes it a preferred choice for patients who need daily allergy control while continuing work or driving. It also carries a low risk of cardiac QT interval interaction, unlike some older antihistamines withdrawn for this reason.
Pakistan has a dusty urban environment, strong seasonal pollen surges and long humid months that make allergic rhinitis and chronic hives common complaints. Physicians often recommend fexofenadine since it gives reliable, once daily control without the drowsiness that limits daytime use of sedating antihistamines. Patients with kidney impairment may need a lower dose, so a doctor should confirm suitability first.
