How to use Unifyline Syrup?
- Unifyline syrup can be taken with or after food
- The bottle should be shaken well before every dose
- Doses need to be spaced evenly through the day
- This syrup prevents symptoms and will not stop an asthma attack
- Never stop this medicine suddenly without your doctor's advice
Contraindications
- This medicine must not be used by patients who have just had a heart attack
- Patients with very low blood pressure
- Avoid in patients who are breastfeeding
- Not recommended for anyone allergic to doxofylline
Drug Interactions
- Theophylline and aminophylline: the combined effect causes tremor and palpitations
- Erythromycin and clarithromycin: blood levels rise towards a toxic range
- Cimetidine and allopurinol: the medicine clears more slowly from the body
- Propranolol: the airway opening effect is blocked and breathing may worsen
- Always tell your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking
Risks and warnings
- Not a cough syrup: this medicine opens the airways and does not clear mucus
- Heart problems: palpitations and irregular beats need urgent review
- Overactive thyroid: heart and nerve effects become stronger
- Stomach ulcers: acid production rises and symptoms may worsen

- Liver or kidney problems: a lower dose is usually required
