About Winzith Tablet 250mg
Winzith (Azithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat common bacterial infections.
Winzith Tablet 250mg Uses
- Treats bacterial chest infections such as bronchitis and community acquired pneumonia
- Treats throat and tonsil infections caused by susceptible bacteria
- Treats skin and soft tissue infections
- Treats ear infections in adults and older children
- Treats sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia when prescribed by a doctor
- Treats sinus infections that do not resolve on their own
Winzith Tablet 250mg Benefits
- Short 3 to 5 day course improves treatment completion compared to longer antibiotic courses
- Once daily dosing makes it easier to take correctly
- Stays active in infected tissue for several days after the last dose
- Works against a broad range of common respiratory and skin bacteria
- Generally well tolerated with a low rate of stomach upset compared to some other antibiotics
What Experts Say
Azithromycin belongs to the macrolide class and works by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, which blocks protein synthesis and stops the organism from multiplying. This mechanism makes it effective against many common respiratory and skin pathogens while sparing much of the normal gut flora compared to broader spectrum agents.
Doctors typically prescribe a 3 to 5 day course because azithromycin concentrates inside tissues and white blood cells, maintaining therapeutic levels long after the last dose is taken. This pharmacokinetic profile is why shorter courses work as well as longer courses of many other antibiotics, and why missing the full course still risks incomplete bacterial clearance and resistance.
Clinicians monitor for gastrointestinal side effects, rare liver enzyme changes and, less commonly, heart rhythm changes in patients who already have a prolonged QT interval or who are on interacting medicines. Patients with cardiac disease, significant liver impairment or those taking other QT prolonging drugs need closer monitoring before this antibiotic is started.
