Xecomb brings together neomycin and gramicidin against bacteria, nystatin against yeast, and triamcinolone to settle swelling and itch. Mixed infections are common in ears that stay damp, so one combined drop can cover several causes at once. This is why doctors often choose it when the exact germ is not yet known.

Ear canal infections are frequent in Pakistan during hot, humid summers and after swimming or using unclean ear buds. Cleaning the ear with cotton swabs or oil often makes the problem worse. Doctors usually advise keeping the ear dry during treatment, using a cotton plug while bathing. Persistent pain, discharge or hearing change should be checked by an ENT specialist.

The drops must not be used if the eardrum is perforated or there is fluid discharge from the middle ear, unless a doctor says so. Use beyond 7 to 10 days can cause fungal overgrowth or hearing damage, so follow the prescribed course.

How to use Xecomb Ear Drops?

• Adults and children: 2 to 3 drops in the affected ear 2 to 3 times daily, or as prescribed.
• Lie on your side with the affected ear facing up and stay there for 5 minutes after the drops.
• Clean the ear gently and wash hands before use. Do not touch the dropper tip to the ear.
• Do not use for more than 7 days unless the doctor advises, and review if no improvement.

Drug Interactions

• Other ear drops: Using several ear preparations together may raise irritation and absorption.
• Aminoglycoside antibiotics: Gentamicin or amikacin by mouth or injection can add to hearing and kidney risk with neomycin.
• Loop diuretics: Furosemide may add to ear toxicity risk if neomycin is absorbed.
• Other steroids: Added steroid effects are possible when used over a large area for a long time.

Risks and warnings

• Perforated eardrum: Neomycin can damage the inner ear if it reaches the middle ear, so do not use unless a doctor advises.
• Hearing loss and ringing: Stop use and see a doctor if hearing worsens or ringing in the ear develops.
• Long use: Prolonged use can cause fungal overgrowth and resistant bacteria.
• Allergy: Do not use if allergic to neomycin, nystatin, triamcinolone or similar medicines.
• Pregnancy and children: Use only when a doctor considers the benefit greater than the risk.
