What Experts Say
Moxifloxacin is a fourth generation fluoroquinolone that blocks two bacterial enzymes, DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This dual action stops bacteria from copying their DNA, which makes it effective against a wide range of gram positive and gram negative organisms that commonly cause eye infections.
In Pakistan, bacterial conjunctivitis and minor corneal infections are frequently seen, especially during dusty summer months and after minor eye injuries. Pakistani physicians often prefer moxifloxacin drops because of their broad coverage and low resistance compared to older antibiotic eye drops.
Doctors generally advise a short, complete course rather than stopping early once redness improves, since incomplete treatment can allow bacteria to survive and return. Contact lens wearers are usually told to pause lens use until the infection has fully cleared.
