Skin Problem

My mother is 60 yrs old.no diabetes, no other problem. Suddenly she felt pain on her left side of forehead and lesions start appearing. She is diagnosed with herpes zoster. Doc has prescribed her lots of medicines. Can any skin specialist help me to make me understand this? What to do & what not to do?

Dear Patient,

In simple terms it means shingles. This is an adult form of chicken pox. With or without treatment it will disappear in 2weeks or so. However, giving acyclovir and strong painkillers helps with pain. Rest and fluids and simple foods are advised. Keep them away from people who have NEVER had chicken pox just for safety.
