While both men and women contract various illnesses, there are some diseases that affect men and women differently. As seen by statistics, women bear the exclusive risk of conditions such as cervical cancer, uterine cancers and tumours, breast cancer, menopause. Women’s health problems also include anxiety and depression are also more common in women as compared to men.
Among the conditions that women contract, there are some that are highly common. To know about these conditions, we invited Dr. Huma Anjum. She is a leading family physician and provides comprehensive medical advice on a wide number of medical issues. She currently practices at two locations; Noor Executive Clinics and Chugtai Medical Centre.
Q.1. What are some common women’s health problems?
First of all thanks for inviting me here! I am really grateful for the opportunity.
As a family physician, I receive scores of patients daily. However, the biggest turn out is of women. Let’s talk about the first common issue; Vitamin D deficiency.
I receive many young working women who complain about fatigue, body pain and laziness.
Basically, they are deficient in Vitamin D. This condition in medicine is known as osteomalacia.
The second condition that women commonly contract is osteoporosis. This is a condition that is mostly seen in women who are middle-aged and have gone through their menopause.
Q.2. How are both of these conditions diagnosed?
To diagnose both of these conditions, one must get their vitamin D and calcium levels checked. If the levels are indeed low, then supplements are required to increase the level. I would also advise for occasional walking and exercising.
Q.3. Would you like to give any general message to your viewers?
I would like to say that if you want to live a healthy and active life, then get your vitamin D and calcium levels checked. In addition, visit a physician to get a thorough diagnosis and treatment.
