Laser Lithotripsy is a procedure to break apart those urinary stones or kidney stones that are too large to be passed out of the body. In this procedure, high-energy shockwaves are transmitted using a machine called the lithotripter directly onto the urinary stones. This disintegrates the large stones into small fragments which can then be either expelled from the body through urination or removed by the urologist using a small basket.
