A2A Tablet 50mg Uses

A2A Tablet 50mg Benefits
- Lowers blood pressure without the persistent dry cough seen with ACE inhibitors
- Slows the decline in kidney function in diabetic patients with protein in the urine
- Once daily dosing improves adherence for long term hypertension management
- Low rate of electrolyte disturbance compared to some other blood pressure drugs
Drug Class
- Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB)
What Experts Say
Losartan Potassium selectively blocks the AT1 receptor for angiotensin II, the hormone that narrows blood vessels and triggers aldosterone release. Blocking this receptor relaxes blood vessels and reduces fluid retention, lowering blood pressure. It avoids the bradykinin buildup that causes the dry cough seen with ACE inhibitors.
In diabetic kidney disease, Losartan reduces pressure inside the kidney's filtering units, slowing the leakage of protein into urine. Clinical trials show this translates into a meaningfully slower decline in kidney function over years, which is why doctors commonly prescribe it once protein appears in urine tests in type 2 diabetes.
Losartan is unique among ARBs in also lowering uric acid through its active metabolite, useful in hypertensive patients prone to gout. Doctors typically start at a low dose and check kidney function and potassium within the first few weeks, since the drug can raise potassium in patients with reduced kidney function.
