Raised cAMP levels cause bronchial smooth muscle to relax, widening the airways and improving airflow. The Role of Diphenhydramine
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride is a first-generation H1 receptor antagonist that blocks histamine at peripheral receptors in the respiratory mucosa and nasal passages. How to use Acefyl Syrup 125ml?
- Shake the bottle well before every dose to ensure even distribution of the active ingredients.
- Use the measuring cup provided to ensure accurate dosing. Do not estimate.
- Acefyl may be taken with or without food.
- Alcohol, sedatives, and sleep medicines must be avoided during treatment as they enhance the sedative effect of Diphenhydramine.
- The standard adult dose is 10ml (2 teaspoons) three to four times daily. Children's doses vary by age: infants take 1.25ml (quarter teaspoon) three times daily, children take 2.5ml (half teaspoon) three times daily.
- The dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor. If symptoms do not improve within 5 to 7 days, a doctor should be consulted.
Drug Interactions
Diphenhydramine in Acefyl has several clinically relevant interactions. All current medicines must be disclosed to the prescribing doctor before starting Acefyl. Key interactions include:
- Alcohol: significantly enhances CNS depression and sedation caused by Diphenhydramine. Must be strictly avoided during treatment.

- Tricyclic antidepressants: additive anticholinergic effects including urinary retention, dry mouth, and constipation.
- Other antihistamines: concurrent use doubles anticholinergic side effects without additional antiallergic benefit.
- Beta-blockers: Acefylline may reduce the effectiveness of beta-blockers and can cause mutual interference in cardiac effects.
Risks and warnings
- Pregnancy: The safety of Acefyl during pregnancy has not been established. It should only be used during pregnancy under direct medical supervision when the benefit clearly outweighs the risk.
- Breastfeeding: Diphenhydramine passes into breast milk and can cause sedation in the infant. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Acefyl.
- Cardiovascular disease: Acefylline can cause palpitations and increased heart rate. Patients with heart disease, arrhythmias, or hypertension should use Acefyl with caution and under medical supervision.

- Driving and machinery: Acefyl causes significant drowsiness due to Diphenhydramine. Driving and operating heavy machinery must be avoided during treatment.
- Children under 2 years: Acefyl should not be used in infants under 2 years without explicit medical supervision.
Acefyl Syrup Side Effects
Most patients tolerate Acefyl well at recommended doses. Side effects are generally mild and more common when the dose is exceeded.
- Drowsiness or sedation caused by Diphenhydramine, particularly in the first few days of use.
- Dry mouth, nose, or throat due to the anticholinergic effect of Diphenhydramine.
