Am-Telsan Tablet Benefits

- May reduce the ankle swelling sometimes seen with Amlodipine used alone
- Offers added kidney protection benefit in patients with diabetes related high blood pressure
What Experts Say
Cardiologists prescribe Amlodipine with Telmisartan when a single blood pressure medicine does not bring readings into a safe range. Amlodipine relaxes blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into vessel walls, while Telmisartan blocks a hormone called angiotensin II that narrows blood vessels and raises pressure. Together the two drugs lower blood pressure through separate pathways for better control.
Physicians note that Telmisartan also has a mild protective effect on the kidneys, which is useful since high blood pressure and diabetes together are a leading cause of kidney damage. Doctors typically start treatment at a low dose and monitor blood pressure and kidney function periodically, adjusting the dose based on response.
Hypertension is extremely common in Pakistan, driven by high salt intake, low physical activity, and rising obesity rates. Physicians recommend combination tablets like this one for patients who need two blood pressure medicines, since taking one tablet instead of two makes it far easier to stay consistent with treatment. Regular monitoring remains important during long term use.
