Betoptic-S Drops 0.25% 5ml Benefits
- Beta-1 selective action means a lower chance of triggering breathing problems than older non selective eye pressure drops
- Suspension formula stays on the eye surface longer for steady pressure control
- Convenient twice daily dosing supports long term glaucoma management
- Helps preserve vision by reducing the pressure that damages the optic nerve over time
What Experts Say
Ophthalmologists in Pakistan favor betaxolol over older non selective beta blockers like timolol because its beta-1 selectivity gives it a lower chance of triggering bronchospasm in patients with asthma or COPD. It still lowers eye pressure reliably by cutting down aqueous humor production, so doctors continue to check lung history before prescribing it.
Because betaxolol is absorbed into the bloodstream through the tear duct, physicians advise pressing a finger against the inner corner of the eye for a minute after each dose to reduce systemic absorption. This simple step lowers the chance of the drop affecting heart rate or blood pressure the way an oral beta blocker would.
Doctors check pulse and review cardiac history before starting Betoptic-S, since beta blockers can slow the heart rate and are avoided in patients with existing heart block. Diabetic patients on insulin are counseled that it may blunt the usual warning signs of low blood sugar, so regular glucose monitoring stays important during treatment.
