Bronchilate Syrup contains Salbutamol, a beta2 agonist bronchodilator used to relieve asthma symptoms.
Bronchilate Syrup Uses
- Relief of bronchospasm in asthma
- Wheezing related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Prevention of exercise induced bronchoconstriction
- Acute asthma attacks and status asthmaticus
Bronchilate Syrup Benefits
- Provides fast relief from breathlessness and chest tightness
- Convenient liquid form suitable for children and adults who struggle with inhaler technique
- Widely available and affordable bronchodilator option
- Can be combined with other asthma or COPD medicines as advised by a doctor
What Experts Say
Physicians commonly prescribe oral salbutamol syrup for young children and patients who find inhaler technique difficult, since the liquid form allows accurate weight based dosing during episodes of recurrent wheeze, acute bronchospasm and viral triggered cough.
Doctors usually advise against relying on it alone for long term persistent asthma, since inhaled bronchodilators act faster with fewer systemic effects, and controller therapy with inhaled corticosteroids remains the preferred long term strategy for most patients with ongoing symptoms and frequent flare ups.
Careful dosing is emphasized in patients with heart disease, thyroid disorders or diabetes, since beta agonists can raise heart rate and blood sugar, and physicians often recommend periodic review and dose adjustment when the syrup is used regularly over several weeks in these patient groups.

- Corticosteroids: May add to the potassium lowering effect when used together regularly.
- Digoxin: Salbutamol may lower blood digoxin levels and affect heart rhythm control.
- MAO Inhibitors and Tricyclic Antidepressants: May increase the risk of cardiovascular side effects such as rapid heartbeat.
- Other Stimulant Bronchodilators: Using multiple beta agonist medicines together can increase the risk of side effects.

- Thyroid Disorders: Requires caution in patients with an overactive thyroid, as symptoms may worsen with regular use.
- Diabetes: May raise blood sugar levels, so glucose monitoring is advised in diabetic patients.
- Low Potassium Levels: Combined use with diuretics or steroids may lower blood potassium further and needs monitoring.
