How to use Butrin XL Tablet 300mg?
- The tablet should be swallowed whole, never crushed, chewed, or split
- It is usually taken once daily in the morning, with or without food
- Doses should be at least 24 hours apart
- Treatment should not be stopped suddenly without asking your doctor
Contraindications
- Should not be used by patients allergic to bupropion or any ingredient
- Should not be used by patients with a seizure disorder or a history of seizures
- Should not be used in anorexia nervosa or bulimia
- Should not be used during sudden stopping of alcohol, benzodiazepines or anticonvulsants
- Should not be used with MAO inhibitors, or within 14 days of stopping them
Risks and warnings
- Monitor mood closely: as antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts in people up to age 24, especially early on
- Use with caution: if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, liver or kidney disease, as dose changes may be needed
- Use with caution: if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and use it only when your doctor advises
- Avoid or limit alcohol: as it may raise seizure risk and worsen side effects
- Tell your doctor about other medicines: as bupropion may raise levels of some antidepressants, antipsychotics and beta blockers
- Be careful when driving: as dizziness or poor concentration may occur early in treatment
- Do not exceed the recommended dose: as an overdose may cause seizures, a fast heartbeat or loss of consciousness

- Difficulty sleeping, headache or dizziness
- Anxiety, restlessness or tremor
- Reduced appetite or weight loss
- Rare allergic signs such as rash, hives or swelling of the face
- Rare seizures, hallucinations or a very fast heartbeat
- Rare worsening mood or thoughts of self-harm, needing urgent medical help
