Chloramphenicol stops bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow. Eye clinics across Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi use it often for bacterial pink eye.

Redness, itching and discharge usually improve within two to three days. Finishing the full course matters, since stopping early can let the infection return or grow resistant.

This medicine works only on the eye surface, so it carries far fewer risks than chloramphenicol taken by mouth. Even so, use it strictly as your doctor advises.

How to use Chloroptic Drops 0.5%?

• Wash your hands before touching the dropper or your eye.
• Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid gently.
• Place one drop inside the lid without touching the dropper to your eye.
• Close your eye for a minute and press lightly near the inner corner.
• Wait at least five minutes before using any other eye drop.

Drug Interactions

• Other eye drops: Space other eye medicines at least five minutes apart to avoid washing this one out.
• Soft contact lenses: The preservative in this drop can be absorbed by lenses, so lenses should stay out during treatment.
• Other bone marrow suppressing drugs: Combining with oral or injectable drugs that affect blood cell production should be avoided unless a doctor approves it.

Risks and warnings

• Blood disorders: Rare but serious bone marrow suppression has been linked to chloramphenicol, mostly with prolonged or repeated use.
• Allergy: Stop use and see a doctor if you notice swelling, severe itching or breathing trouble.
• Contact lenses: Remove soft contact lenses before applying and wait before putting them back in.
• Prolonged use: Do not use for longer than your doctor recommends, since extended use can encourage resistant bacteria.
• Children: Use only under medical guidance in infants and young children.

Side Effects

• Temporary stinging or burning after applying
• Mild eye redness or watering
• Blurred vision for a few seconds after use
• Itching around the eyelid
• Dryness or irritation of the eye
• Rarely, an allergic skin reaction around the eye

Storage Conditions

Store this bottle below 25 degrees Celsius, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep it tightly closed when not in use and discard four weeks after opening. Keep out of reach of children.
