About Deximox Eye Drop 0.1% / 0.5%

Deximox Eye Drop combines dexamethasone and moxifloxacin to treat infected, inflamed eyes after surgery or injury.

Deximox Eye Drop Uses

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis with associated inflammation
  • Post operative eye inflammation after cataract or other eye surgery
  • Infected corneal ulcers requiring combined antibiotic and steroid action
  • Eye infections accompanied by redness, swelling and discomfort

Deximox Eye Drop Benefits

  • Combined antibiotic and steroid action in a single drop
  • Faster relief from pain, redness and swelling than antibiotic alone
  • Support for faster healing after eye surgery
  • Broad spectrum coverage against common eye pathogens

What Experts Say

Moxifloxacin is a fourth generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It blocks bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes bacteria need to copy their genetic material. This stops bacterial growth and clears the infection from the eye surface. Moxifloxacin covers a wide range of organisms commonly responsible for conjunctivitis and corneal infections, making it a preferred broad spectrum choice in ophthalmology.

Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by suppressing prostaglandins and other inflammatory mediators in eye tissue. When an eye infection is severe, the immune response itself can cause swelling, redness and scarring that slows recovery. Adding a steroid to the antibiotic controls this response, eases discomfort and can lower the risk of corneal scarring after surgery or injury.

An antibiotic paired with a steroid needs careful use because steroids can mask a worsening infection or let fungal and viral organisms spread unchecked without proper diagnosis. Doctors usually prescribe this combination only after confirming a bacterial cause and monitor eye pressure and healing closely during longer courses.

How to use Deximox Eye Drop 0.1% / 0.5%?

  • Hands should be washed thoroughly before touching the eye or the dropper
  • The head should be tilted back with the lower eyelid pulled down gently to form a small pocket
  • One drop should be placed into the affected eye as directed by the doctor
  • The dropper tip should never touch the eye, eyelid or any surface
  • The eye should be closed gently for 1 to 2 minutes after the drop, with light pressure on the inner corner to limit drainage
  • A gap of at least 5 minutes is needed before using any other eye drop
  • The eye should not be rubbed after the drop is applied
  • The full course prescribed by the doctor should be completed even if symptoms improve early

Drug Interactions

  • Other Topical Corticosteroid Drops: Extra steroid eye drops used at the same time raise the risk of increased eye pressure and delayed healing
  • Other Fluoroquinolone Eye Drops: Another fluoroquinolone antibiotic drop used together adds no real benefit and raises the risk of resistance
  • NSAID Eye Drops: Topical NSAID drops used alongside this one may raise the risk of corneal problems in people with existing eye surface disease
  • Oral Corticosteroids: Oral steroid use at the same time can add to the risk of raised eye pressure and slower healing
  • Other Eye Drops: A gap of at least 5 minutes between this drop and any other eye medication prevents one from washing out the other

Risks and warnings

  • Raised Eye Pressure: Prolonged steroid use in this drop can increase intraocular pressure and lead to glaucoma with long term use
  • Viral And Fungal Infections: Not suitable for viral infections like herpes or fungal eye infections unless a doctor confirms bacterial involvement and supervises treatment
  • Delayed Healing: Steroid content can slow corneal wound healing after injury or surgery
  • Cataract Risk: Long term steroid eye drop use is linked with cataract formation
  • Masked Infection: Steroid effect may hide signs of a worsening infection, so any increase in pain or redness should be reported promptly
