What Experts Say
Doctors across Pakistan commonly prescribe diclofenac sodium as a first line NSAID for musculoskeletal pain because it combines strong anti-inflammatory action with a relatively short half-life, which allows dose adjustments soon after side effects first appear during a treatment course of a few days.
Physicians generally recommend taking the dispersible form with food or milk to reduce gastric irritation, since diclofenac inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the stomach lining as well as at the site of injury or inflammation. Short courses of five to seven days are usually preferred over prolonged daily use.
For patients with hypertension, kidney disease or a history of heart problems, doctors weigh the cardiovascular risk of NSAIDs carefully before prescribing diclofenac, often choosing the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to bring pain and swelling under control safely.
