What Experts Say
Diclofenac works by blocking cyclooxygenase enzymes, which lowers the production of prostaglandins responsible for pain, swelling, and fever. The dual release capsule design releases part of the dose quickly and the remainder more slowly, extending symptom control across the day.
Rheumatologists and orthopedic doctors frequently prescribe diclofenac for chronic joint conditions because it offers a strong anti-inflammatory effect alongside pain relief. Physicians balance this benefit against the well documented gastrointestinal and cardiovascular risks that come with long term NSAID use.
Current prescribing practice favors the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration needed, along with a stomach protecting medicine in patients who need extended treatment or already have ulcer risk factors. Chronic back and joint pain remain among the most common reasons this class of medicine is prescribed across Pakistani outpatient clinics.
