What Experts Say
Physicians reserve Diflucan Capsule 200mg for fungal infections that need a higher, sustained dose, such as esophageal candidiasis, disseminated Candida infections, and cryptococcal meningitis. These conditions often require several weeks of continuous therapy rather than a single dose, which changes how closely the treatment needs to be monitored.
Because 200mg courses tend to run longer, doctors pay closer attention to liver function and heart rhythm during treatment, since fluconazole can affect both at higher cumulative doses. Patients already taking medicines that affect the QT interval or liver metabolism are watched more carefully for this reason.
Doctors also weigh the underlying cause of the infection before extending or repeating a 200mg course, since patients with weakened immunity from transplant, cancer treatment, or advanced illness may need a longer or repeated regimen. Regular follow up helps confirm the infection is clearing rather than just improving temporarily.
