Duphaston Tablet Uses

Duphaston tablets mimic the activity of the natural hormone progesterone to help treat symptoms caused by hormonal imbalances in the body. Duphaston is used to treat conditions such as female infertility, unusual menstrual bleeding or pain, irregular periods, premenstrual syndrome, and endometriosis, etc.

Risks and warnings

You should know the risks and warnings of Duphaston to prevent its misuse.

There are some specific circumstances under which the use of certain medications is contraindicated or considered dangerous. So if you are taking any medicine its always a good practice to familiarize yourself with its risks and warnings.

The risks and warnings associated with Duphaston are:

1. Pregnancy or breastfeeding

The medicine should only be used during pregnancy upon your doctor's recommendation. Women who breastfeed should also consult their doctors before taking Duphaston.

2. Allergy

Avoid taking Duphaston tablets if you are allergic to them. If symptoms such as rash, itching/swelling (especially on the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing occur, consult a doctor immediately.

Allergies can be mild, but in certain cases, people may also have a severe reaction, known as anaphylactic shock. In this condition, the person is under an imminent threat of death, unless they are given immediate medical care or shot from an EpiPen.

3. Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding

If you have progesterone-dependent cancer (a type of cancer that depends on progesterone to grow and survive), such as breast or uterine cancer, Duphaston tablets are not recommended. It can worsen your health. Therefore do not take Duphaston if you have breast cancer or ovarian cancer.

5. Severe liver disease

Duphaston tablets are not recommended for people with serious liver problems. It can make the condition even worse.

The liver does the metabolism and excretion of drugs in the body. However, in cases where the liver is not working efficiently due to failure or disease, drugs get accumulated in the body. That jeopardizes the health of the person. Thus, people with liver failure should take Duphaston with caution.

6. Thromboembolism

You should not take Duphaston if you have a history of thromboembolism or blood clots or are at risk of it. Always tell the healthcare provider if you have had deep vein thrombosis and they have prescribed you Duphaston.

7. Under 18 years

Duphaston is not recommended for people under 18 years of age.
