What Experts Say
Doctors across Pakistan usually start escitalopram at a low dose and increase it gradually after assessing response and tolerance. This stepwise titration lowers the risk of early side effects like nausea and restlessness while allowing the antidepressant effect to build steadily over several weeks.
Physicians recommend monitoring mood, sleep and any suicidal thinking closely during the first few weeks of treatment, especially in younger patients. Regular follow up visits help the prescribing doctor judge whether the dose needs adjustment or whether therapy should continue longer term.
Escitalopram works by selectively increasing serotonin activity in the brain, which gradually corrects the chemical imbalance linked to depression and anxiety. Physicians often prefer it in patients with coexisting heart conditions or in the elderly because of its comparatively cleaner interaction profile.
