What Experts Say

Euvax-B is a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine. It contains purified hepatitis B surface antigen, made in yeast cells, along with an aluminum adjuvant that strengthens the immune response. In many regions it is given at birth, followed by doses at 1 to 2 months and 6 months, or as your local schedule advises.

The antigen teaches the body to make protective antibodies without causing infection. A full course, usually 3 doses, gives lasting protection in most healthy people. Booster doses are not routinely needed for healthy people, but some high risk groups may need a blood test to check immunity.

Hepatitis B spreads through blood, unsafe injections and from mother to baby, and it is a major cause of chronic liver disease. Timely vaccination in infancy is the most effective prevention. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure about your own or your child's vaccination status, as missed doses can usually be continued without restarting.

How to use Euvax-B injection 10mcg / 5ml?

• Euvax-B must be given only by a doctor, nurse or trained vaccinator.
• It is injected into a muscle, in the thigh for infants and the upper arm for older children and adults.
• Follow the schedule advised by your doctor or the national immunization program.
• Complete all doses to get full protection.

Drug Interactions

• Immunosuppressive medicines: Steroids, chemotherapy and similar drugs can reduce the vaccine response.
• Hepatitis B immune globulin: It may be given at the same time in a different site when a doctor advises.
• Other vaccines: They are usually given at separate injection sites on the same day, as advised by the provider.

Risks and warnings

• Allergy: Do not give to anyone who had a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose or to yeast.
