Ez-Flow contains lactulose, an osmotic laxative. Lactulose is a sugar that is not absorbed in the small intestine, so it reaches the colon unchanged. It has been used for decades and is considered safe for long term use in adults when taken as advised by a doctor.

In the colon, gut bacteria break it down, drawing water into the bowel. This softens the stool and increases its bulk, which triggers a natural bowel movement, usually within 24 to 48 hours. Lactulose is not absorbed into the blood, so it is widely regarded as suitable even for older adults and people with mild illness.

The same process makes the colon slightly acidic, which helps trap ammonia. For this reason doctors also prescribe lactulose for liver-related confusion. How to use Ez-Flow suspension 35gm / 5ml?

• Take Ez-Flow by mouth as directed by your doctor or as printed on the pack.
• Measure the dose with a proper measuring cup or spoon.
• Drink plenty of fluids during the day to help it work.
• Allow up to 2 days for the full effect, and do not increase the dose on your own.

Drug Interactions

• Other laxatives: Using them together can cause loose stools and make it hard to judge the right lactulose dose.
• Oral antibiotics such as neomycin: They may reduce the acidifying action of lactulose in the colon, so a doctor should guide combined use.

Risks and warnings

• Sugar content: It contains small amounts of sugars, so people with diabetes or galactosemia should use it only on medical advice.
• Undiagnosed pain: Do not use for abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting of unknown cause, or with rectal bleeding.
