What Experts Say
Levofloxacin is a broad spectrum fluoroquinolone that doctors reserve for infections that do not respond well to safer, first line antibiotics. Health experts note it works fast against many resistant bacteria, but its strength brings a higher chance of side effects compared with milder antibiotics.
Medical guidelines recommend extra caution in older adults and people taking steroid medicines, since this group faces a higher risk of tendon damage. Doctors also advise against routine use during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless there is no safer option, because safety data in these groups remains limited.
Self medication with antibiotics is common across Pakistan, and experts warn this habit fuels resistance, including resistance to fluoroquinolones like Levofloxacin. Health professionals stress that Fuvelox should only be taken for the exact duration a doctor prescribes, even if symptoms improve early.
