What Experts Say
Doctors across Pakistan increasingly rely on pregabalin for patients whose nerve pain does not settle with simple painkillers. Diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia are common in daily clinical practice, and pregabalin is often chosen because it calms overactive nerve signals rather than just masking pain. Physicians usually start with a low dose and raise it slowly to balance pain relief against side effects like drowsiness.
Because this medicine is cleared through the kidneys, doctors routinely check kidney function before and during treatment, particularly in older adults. Regular follow up also helps track mood changes, weight gain and swelling, which are monitored closely given the medicine's dependence potential. Gradual tapering rather than sudden discontinuation remains standard practice whenever treatment needs to stop.
