How to use Hidrasec Sachet 10mg?
- Mix the sachet contents with 5ml - 10ml of water or with soft food
- Stir the mixture well and give the full dose immediately
- Hidrasec sachet can be taken with or without food
- Always give plenty of fluids alongside this medicine to prevent dehydration.
- Do not give more than the prescribed dose in a single day
Contraindications
- Racecadotril allergy: Do not use in children with a known sensitivity to racecadotril or any sachet ingredient
- Chronic diarrhoea: This medicine is intended for acute episodes only, not long-term or recurring diarrhoea
- Hereditary fructose intolerance: The sachet formulation contains sucrose, making it unsuitable for children with this condition
- Glucose-galactose malabsorption: Children with this rare condition must avoid Hidrasec sachet entirely
- Sucrase-isomaltase deficiency: Children with this enzyme deficiency should not receive this medicine
- Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea: Hidrasec sachet has not been tested in antibiotic-related cases and must not be used for them
Drug Interactions
- ACE inhibitors: Combined use may theoretically raise the risk of facial or throat swelling (angioedema); inform the doctor if the child is on any ACE inhibitor
- Loperamide: Concurrent use may increase the risk of constipation as both medicines act on the gut; use together only under medical supervision
Risks and warnings
- Acute diarrhoea only: Hidrasec sachet is not for chronic or recurring diarrhoea; stop use once two normal stools are passed
- Bloody stools or fever: These signs may indicate a bacterial infection and require immediate medical review before continuing treatment
- Rehydration therapy: This medicine does not replace ORS; always give oral rehydration solution alongside it to prevent dehydration
- Sucrose content: The sachet contains sucrose, which is unsuitable for children with rare sugar metabolism disorders
- Kidney or liver problems: Caution is advised in children with impaired kidney or liver function; consult the doctor before use
- Pregnancy: Safety has not been established; pregnant women must not use racecadotril without medical advice
- Breastfeeding: Racecadotril should not be used by breastfeeding mothers due to insufficient safety data
