How to use Racedo Sachet 10mg?
- Racedo 10mg sachet can be emptied onto the infant's tongue and swallowed with water.
- The sachet may also be mixed into a small amount of milk, food, or bottle feed.
- Always give the dose immediately after mixing, without storing it
- Finish the course until two normal stools are passed, for a maximum of 7 days
Contraindications
- Known allergy to racecadotril or any ingredient in the sachet
- Not suitable for infants under 3 months of age due to insufficient safety data
- Avoid in patients with chronic diarrhea, as this sachet is approved for acute episodes only
- Those with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase deficiency must not use this sachet, as it contains sucrose
- Should not be taken by infants with bloody stools or high fever without first consulting a doctor
- Patients with antibiotic-associated diarrhea must not use this sachet, as safety data are not available for this condition
Drug Interactions
- ACE inhibitors: combined use may raise the risk of angioedema; report any facial or throat swelling to a doctor immediately
- Loperamide: taking both together may produce an additive effect, increasing the risk of excessive gut slowing or constipation
- Warfarin and oral anticoagulants: prolonged combined use may affect blood clotting; INR monitoring may be needed
Risks and warnings
- Oral rehydration therapy: Racedo 10mg sachet does not replace ORS; both must be given together at all times to prevent dehydration
- Bloody stools or high fever: these signs may indicate a bacterial infection that needs a different treatment; do not rely on this sachet alone
- Worsening diarrhea: a doctor must be consulted if symptoms do not improve within 3 days of starting treatment
- Sucrose content: this sachet contains sucrose and must not be given to infants with known metabolic sugar intolerances
- Kidney problems: infants with known kidney impairment must only use this sachet under close medical supervision
- Liver problems: this sachet is not recommended for infants with severe liver disease
- Pregnancy: this medicine must not be used during pregnancy due to a lack of clinical safety data
- Breastfeeding: this sachet is not recommended while breastfeeding; a doctor must be consulted before use
