How to use Kombat capsule 500mg?
- Kombat 500mg capsule is usually taken in divided doses through the day, as directed by the prescribing doctor.
- The full course should be completed even if symptoms improve within a few days.
- Capsules can be taken with or without food, though food may reduce mild stomach upset.
- Stopping the antibiotic early increases the risk of the infection returning or becoming resistant.
Drug Interactions
- Probenecid: Increases cephradine levels in the blood by slowing its removal from the kidneys.
- Oral anticoagulants: Cephradine can occasionally increase the effect of blood thinners like warfarin.
- Live typhoid vaccine: Antibiotics including cephradine can reduce the vaccine's effectiveness if given close together.
- Other cephalosporins: Combining with other cephalosporin antibiotics is generally unnecessary and should be avoided.
Risks and warnings
- Penicillin allergy: People with a penicillin allergy have a higher chance of also reacting to cephradine, so this history should be shared before starting.
- Diarrhea: Antibiotic associated diarrhea, including a rare but serious form caused by Clostridioides difficile, can occur during or after treatment.
- Kidney function: People with reduced kidney function may need a lower dose or a longer gap between doses.
- Incomplete courses: Stopping Kombat too early is a common cause of antibiotic resistance in Pakistan and should be avoided.
