What Experts Say
Levofloxacin works by blocking bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes that bacteria need to copy their genetic material and multiply. This mechanism gives it activity against a wide range of bacteria responsible for respiratory, urinary, and skin infections, including some organisms that resist older antibiotics.
Prescribers usually choose a five to fourteen day course of Leflotec Tablet 250mg depending on the site and severity of infection, and the dose is reduced in patients with impaired kidney function since the drug is mainly cleared through the kidneys. Completing the full prescribed course, even after symptoms improve, is essential to prevent the bacteria from developing resistance.
Because fluoroquinolones carry a recognized risk of tendon damage and nerve related side effects, physicians in Pakistan generally reserve levofloxacin for infections where safer, narrower spectrum antibiotics are not suitable. Regular review of symptoms and, where needed, kidney function supports safe use of this antibiotic class.
