Lepride Tablet 50mg formula
How to use Lepride Tablet 50mg?
- Lepride tablet is taken fifteen to thirty minutes before meals
- The tablet should be swallowed whole with water
- Taking it after a meal wastes much of its benefit
- Antacids need a gap of about two hours from this tablet
- This medicine should not be stopped suddenly after a long course
Contraindications
- Patients with a tumour that depends on the hormone prolactin
- Should not be taken by anyone with bleeding or blockage in the gut
- Avoid in patients with a rare adrenal tumour called phaeochromocytoma
- Not suitable for patients allergic to levosulpiride
Drug Interactions
- Levodopa and Parkinson's medicines: each cancels the other's effect
- Heart rhythm medicines: the heart tracing may be affected
- Hyoscine and similar antispasmodics: the stomach benefit is lost
- Sleeping pills and alcohol: drowsiness becomes much stronger
- Always tell your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking
Risks and warnings
- Raised prolactin: breast swelling, milk leakage or missed periods need review
- Course length: long use raises the risk of lasting movement problems
- Parkinson's disease: this tablet can make tremor and stiffness worse
- Elderly patients: drowsiness and movement side effects are more likely
- Kidney problems: a lower dose is needed as the drug clears slowly
- Epilepsy: the seizure threshold may be lowered
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: use only if clearly necessary
- Driving and machinery: drowsiness makes driving unsafe
