What Experts Say
Physicians in Pakistan frequently prescribe levofloxacin for respiratory and urinary infections because it covers both typical and atypical bacteria in a single once daily tablet. This broad activity makes it useful when a specific organism has not yet been identified through culture testing.
Doctors reserve fluoroquinolones like levofloxacin for infections that do not respond well to first line antibiotics, since overuse has been linked to rising bacterial resistance. Clinicians typically confirm the diagnosis with basic tests before starting therapy and set a clear treatment duration, usually five to fourteen days depending on the infection site.
Because levofloxacin carries a risk of tendon damage and nerve related side effects, prescribers pay close attention to a patient's age, kidney function and any existing tendon problems before recommending it. Regular follow up during treatment helps catch early warning signs and allows the dose to be adjusted for patients with reduced kidney function.
