What Experts Say
Physicians recommend levofloxacin when first line antibiotics fail or when the suspected bacteria are already known to resist milder drugs, since its broad spectrum reliably covers many resistant respiratory, urinary, and skin pathogens commonly seen across Pakistani hospitals and outpatient clinics today.
Doctors across Pakistan generally avoid prescribing this drug class to patients with tendon disorders, myasthenia gravis, or a past history of seizures, and the daily dose is adjusted carefully in anyone with reduced kidney function to prevent the drug from building up in the body.
Treatment courses are usually kept short and specific to the confirmed infection type, because prolonged or repeated fluoroquinolone use raises the risk of antibiotic resistance and tendon related injury, a concern doctors weigh carefully in older adults who are also taking steroid medicines.
