Librax Tablet Uses

• Prescribed for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) when anxiety or stress worsens symptoms
• Helps relieve stomach cramps caused by muscle spasms in the gut
• Reduces excess acid secretion linked to peptic ulcers
• Targets both the emotional and physical components of digestive disorders
• Used to manage acute enterocolitis alongside other medicines
• Effective for stress-related stomach pain that does not respond to antispasmodics alone

When Not to Use Librax

• Known allergy to chlordiazepoxide, clidinium bromide, or any other benzodiazepine
• Narrow-angle glaucoma, as chlordiazepoxide may raise intraocular pressure
• Enlarged prostate or bladder obstruction, due to the anticholinergic effect of clidinium
• Myasthenia gravis, as Librax can worsen neuromuscular weakness
• Pulmonary insufficiency or respiratory depression
• First trimester of pregnancy or during breastfeeding
• Active psychosis or severe depression without anxiety

Risks and warnings

• Share your full medical history with your doctor before taking the Librax tablet. Some conditions need extra care or a dose adjustment.
• Glaucoma: Librax tablet can raise eye pressure and is not suitable for glaucoma patients.
• Kidney or liver disease: Both conditions slow drug clearance and require dose adjustment with the Librax tablet.
• Respiratory problems (COPD, asthma): Librax tablet can suppress breathing and requires close monitoring.
• Depression or suicidal thoughts: Benzodiazepines in Librax tablets may worsen mood disorders in some patients.
• Pregnancy: Librax tablet is not recommended during pregnancy as it may harm the fetus.
• Breastfeeding: Both active ingredients pass into breast milk; breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
• Elderly patients: Older adults face a higher risk of falls, confusion, and sedation with the Librax tablet.
• Children: Librax tablet is not recommended for paediatric use.
• Dependence risk: Librax tablet should be used for the shortest duration necessary to avoid physical dependence.
• Alcohol should not be consumed during Librax tablet treatment.
• Driving or operating machinery should be avoided due to drowsiness caused by the Librax tablet.
• Librax tablet should never be stopped suddenly after prolonged use, as withdrawal seizures may occur.

How to use Librax Tablet?

• Adults: 1 to 2 tablets three to four times daily, taken before meals and at bedtime.
• Elderly patients: A lower dose is usually prescribed due to higher sensitivity to the medicine.
• Children: Librax tablet is not recommended for use in children.

Directions For Librax Tablet

• Librax tablet can be taken with or without food, but is most effective when taken before meals.
• The tablet should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water.
• The tablet should not be crushed, broken, or chewed before swallowing.
• Doses should be spaced evenly throughout the day for a consistent effect.
• Librax tablet should not be stopped suddenly without consulting a doctor first.

Librax Tablet Side Effects

• Drowsiness or excessive sleepiness
• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision
• Dizziness or light-headedness
• Constipation
• Difficulty urinating
• Headache
• Skin rash
• Severe confusion or unusual agitation
• Suicidal thoughts or significant mood changes
• Difficulty breathing or chest tightness
• Severe allergic reaction, including hives, facial swelling, or wheezing
• Signs of physical dependence or withdrawal, such as tremors, sweating, or seizures
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes, which may indicate liver involvement

Drug Interactions

• Always tell your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking. Librax may interact with:
• Opioid painkillers (tramadol, codeine, morphine): Combined use can cause severe sedation, slow breathing, and, in rare cases, coma.
• Antidepressants (amitriptyline, imipramine): May increase anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth, constipation, and urinary retention.
• Antihistamines (chlorpheniramine, promethazine): Combined sedative effects are stronger and can impair alertness significantly.
• Antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole): May increase chlordiazepoxide levels in the blood, raising the risk of side effects.
• Alcohol: Combining alcohol with Librax causes excessive sedation and increases the risk of accidents.
• Antacids: May slow the absorption of Librax if taken at the same time.
