What Experts Say
Clotrimazole is a broad spectrum antifungal that damages the cell membrane of fungi, stopping them from growing and spreading further across the skin surface. It works well against the dermatophytes and yeasts responsible for ringworm, athlete's foot and skin candidiasis.
Betamethasone dipropionate is a potent topical corticosteroid included in this formula. It reduces the inflammation, redness, swelling and itching that usually accompany a fungal infection, calming the skin while the antifungal ingredient works on the infection itself.
Gentamicin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, adds antibacterial cover for cases where scratching or trapped moisture has allowed bacteria to infect the same patch of skin. Dermatologists usually limit this triple combination cream to short courses, since prolonged steroid use on skin can lead to thinning, stretch marks and other local side effects.

- Treatment is usually continued for one to two weeks, or as directed by the doctor.
- The cream is not applied to broken skin, the eyes, or open wounds.
Drug Interactions
- Other Topical Steroids: Using more than one steroid product on the same area increases the risk of skin thinning.
- Occlusive Dressings: Covering the treated area increases absorption and side effect risk.
- Other Topical Antibiotics: Combining with other topical antibiotics on the same site is generally avoided.
Risks and warnings
- Prolonged Use: Extended use on the same area can cause skin thinning and stretch marks.
- Large Areas: Applying over large body areas or under occlusive dressings raises the risk of steroid absorption into the body.
- Children: Young children absorb topical steroids more readily, so use needs closer medical supervision.
- Face and Groin: These areas are more sensitive to steroid side effects and need shorter treatment courses.
- Untreated Infection: Stopping treatment too early can allow the fungal infection to return.
