Drug Interactions
- Oral iron supplements: Oral iron taken together with IV iron sucrose can lower absorption of the oral dose and raise the risk of iron overload.

- Chloramphenicol: This antibiotic can lower the body's response to iron therapy.
Risks and warnings
- Allergic reactions: Iron sucrose can trigger serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, during or after the infusion.
- Low blood pressure: Rapid infusion may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, dizziness, or fainting.
- Iron overload: Excess use without proper monitoring can lead to iron accumulation in organs over time.
- Liver disease: Patients with active liver problems need dose adjustment and closer monitoring.
- Infection risk: Iron therapy is generally paused during active infections since iron can support bacterial growth.
