About Misar AM Tablet 80mg / 5mg
Telmisartan 80mg and Amlodipine 5mg combination tablet for managing high blood pressure in adults.
Misar AM Tablet 80mg / 5mg Uses
- Treats high blood pressure (hypertension) not fully controlled by Telmisartan or Amlodipine alone
- Used as combination therapy when a single blood pressure medicine does not bring readings to target
- Prescribed as a convenient single-pill substitute for patients already stable on separate Telmisartan and Amlodipine tablets
- Helps maintain long-term blood pressure control to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack and kidney damage
Misar AM Tablet 80mg / 5mg Benefits
- Combines an ARB and a calcium channel blocker for stronger blood pressure control than either drug alone
- Once-daily dosing makes it easier to stay consistent with treatment
- Reduces pill burden for patients who need both drug classes together
- May lower the risk of ankle swelling seen with higher-dose Amlodipine alone, since Telmisartan can partly offset this effect
- Offers a higher-Telmisartan option for patients needing more ARB effect without raising the Amlodipine dose
What Experts Say
Telmisartan blocks the AT1 receptor for angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure. Blocking this keeps vessels relaxed and lowers pressure. It has one of the longest half-lives among ARBs, giving smooth, steady control over 24 hours with once-daily dosing.
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It blocks calcium from entering vascular smooth muscle, relaxing arterial walls and lowering resistance to blood flow. Since Amlodipine acts on vessel tone while Telmisartan acts on the renin-angiotensin pathway, combining them targets two separate mechanisms for a stronger effect than either drug alone.
Guidelines generally recommend combination therapy once blood pressure stays above target on one agent, since two complementary drugs at moderate doses often work better with fewer side effects than maximizing one drug. The 80mg/5mg strength suits patients needing the highest Telmisartan dose but a lower Amlodipine dose, often to limit ankle swelling. Regular blood pressure and kidney checks are advised.
