About Montiget Tablet 5mg
Montiget 5mg is montelukast sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist for asthma and allergic rhinitis.
Uses
- Long term control of chronic asthma symptoms in children
- Prevention of exercise induced bronchospasm
- Relief of seasonal and year round allergic rhinitis symptoms
- Reduction of nighttime asthma flare ups and wheezing episodes
Benefits
- Chewable form makes daily dosing easier for young children
- Once daily evening dosing improves treatment adherence
- Works alongside inhalers to reduce overall symptom burden
- Helps children stay active without asthma related breathing limits
What Experts Say
Montelukast blocks leukotriene receptors in the airway lining, reducing the inflammation and airway constriction that trigger asthma flare ups and allergic rhinitis symptoms. Pediatricians often add it to a child's asthma plan when pollen exposure, dust, or smoke triggers make daily symptom control difficult with an inhaler alone.
The 5mg chewable strength is formulated for children roughly six to fourteen years old, allowing accurate weight appropriate dosing without needing to split adult tablets. Evening dosing aligns with the drug's role in reducing overnight airway inflammation, since leukotriene levels tend to rise during sleep and contribute to early morning symptom flare ups.
Doctors monitor children on montelukast for mood or behavior changes, since leukotriene modifiers carry a recognized neuropsychiatric risk including agitation, anxiety, and sleep disturbance. Regular follow up visits help confirm the medicine is controlling asthma and allergy symptoms while catching any emerging behavioral side effects early.
Drug Class

How to use Montiget Tablet 5mg?
- Give Montiget Tablet 5mg to children roughly six to fourteen years old unless the doctor advises otherwise

- Give with or without food, at roughly the same time each evening
- Continue the full course even if the child feels better, unless the doctor says to stop
- Do not use this chewable 5mg tablet to treat a sudden asthma attack, it is a controller medicine not a rescue inhaler
Drug Interactions

- Rifampin: can reduce montelukast effectiveness through the same enzyme induction effect
- Gemfibrozil: can raise montelukast levels and increase the chance of side effects
- Other asthma controller medicines: generally safe to combine but should only be adjusted under a doctor's guidance
Risks and warnings
- Can cause mood or behavior changes including agitation, anxiety, irritability, and unusual dreams, most often reported in children
- May cause sleep disturbances such as insomnia or vivid nightmares
- Rare reports link montelukast to worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, so any sudden mood change needs prompt medical review
