What Experts Say
Ceftriaxone, the active ingredient in Naxone Injection, is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic that stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall, causing the bacteria to die. Its long half life allows effective once daily dosing for most infections, which simplifies both hospital and outpatient antibiotic courses.
Doctors choose ceftriaxone for infections where broad gram negative and gram positive coverage is needed, including cases where the exact bacteria has not yet been identified. Hospitals frequently use it as an early empirical antibiotic while culture and sensitivity results are still pending.
Because inappropriate antibiotic use contributes to resistance, physicians reserve ceftriaxone for infections that genuinely need this level of coverage rather than for minor infections that respond to narrower spectrum drugs. Dose, route and duration are all tailored to the type and severity of the infection being treated.
