How to use Norvasc Tablet 5mg?
- Norvasc tablet can be taken with or without food
- The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water
- Taking it at the same time daily keeps blood pressure steady
- This medicine must be continued even when you feel completely well
- Stopping suddenly is unsafe and can push blood pressure back up
- Full benefit appears after one to two weeks of regular use
Contraindications
- Those with a history of allergy to amlodipine or similar medicines
- People diagnosed with severe narrowing of the aortic valve
- Patients with very low blood pressure or shock
- Not recommended for unstable heart failure soon after a heart attack
Drug Interactions
- Simvastatin: muscle damage risk rises, so the statin dose must be limited
- Clarithromycin and ketoconazole: amlodipine levels rise and pressure may drop too low
- Sildenafil: combined use can cause dizziness and fainting
- Other blood pressure medicines: the lowering effect adds up
- Always tell your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking
Risks and warnings
- Ankle swelling: puffy feet are common and should be reported, not self treated
- Severe aortic stenosis: blood pressure may fall too low in these patients
