Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone that blocks bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme needed for bacteria to copy their DNA. This kills the bacteria and clears the infection. It is widely used in Pakistan for urinary infections and gut infections including typhoid.

How to use Novidat Tablet 250mg?

• Adults: 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily, depending on the infection, as prescribed.
• Swallow whole with water, with or without food, and drink plenty of fluids.
• Keep a gap of 2 hours before or 6 hours after antacids, iron, calcium or dairy products.
• Complete the full course even if you feel better.

Drug Interactions

• Antacids, iron, calcium and dairy: These bind ciprofloxacin and lower its effect, so keep a gap between doses.
• Theophylline: Ciprofloxacin can raise theophylline levels and cause toxicity.
• Tizanidine: This combination should be avoided because of severe low blood pressure and drowsiness.
• Warfarin: It may increase the blood thinning effect and bleeding risk.
• NSAIDs and diabetes medicines: NSAIDs may raise seizure risk, and blood sugar may change with diabetes drugs.

Risks and warnings

• Tendon damage: Pain or swelling in a tendon needs immediate stopping of the medicine and medical advice.
• Nerve and nervous system effects: Tingling, numbness, confusion or seizures need urgent review, especially in epilepsy.
