What Experts Say
NovoMix 30 is a premixed insulin analogue that combines fast acting insulin aspart with a longer acting protaminated form in a single pen device. Doctors often choose this combination because it covers both the sugar spike that follows a meal and the steady background insulin need between meals, reducing the number of separate injections a patient needs each day.
Because the two insulin components act at different speeds, timing of injections relative to meals matters. Most physicians advise taking the dose shortly before eating so the rapid acting portion can match the rise in blood sugar from food. Missing this timing can lead to swings in glucose levels.
Insulin dose needs vary widely between patients and change over time with diet, activity, weight and illness. Regular blood sugar monitoring and periodic HbA1c checks help doctors fine tune the dose and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia, which is the most common concern with any insulin therapy.
